GFXBench, which previously leaked graphics scores of a Sony D6603 device, which seems to be the new Xperia Z3, have now leaked details on Motorola’s new device, codenamed Shamu after SeaWorld’s famous killer whale. The Motorola Shamu is due to be a Google Nexus 6 candidate, but is far from what you’d expect from a traditional Nexus. The possible collaboration of Google and Motorola was announced about 2 weeks ago. It seems the device will be sporting a Snapdragon 801 chipset, as it comes up to par with other devices, such as Samsung’s Galaxy S5, rocking those sets of SoC’s under the hood.
Google Nexus 6 aka Shamu, the Nexus 5 successor, to be made by Motorola
It looks as if the Shamu will consist of a Qualcomm quad core, 2.9GB of RAM, 24GB of storage, a 12MP rear camera with 4K video capabilities, a 2MP front camera, and a Snapdragon clocked at 2.6GHz. This will all be running on Android L out of the box.
The Shamu is looking to have a 2392 x 1440 pixel display. According to the benchmarks released by GFXBench, the phone has graphic scores that are close to other devices with 1080p displays. Although, the device scores higher than the LG G3, which also has a Snapdragon 801 and Quad HD panels. It seems the Korean LG G3 Category 6 also scored lower than the Shamu, although that sports a Snapdragon 805 processor, but matched the high-res panel with an Adreno 420 GPU. You must keep in mind that these results are just exploratory results, and onscreen and offscreen scores for Motorola’s device seem to be closely related. The test most likely didn’t count in the display resolution factor.
These are some great specs to see for a device that will likely come to be the face of Android L, and we’re going to hope that this device takes off into becoming the Nexus 6. It seems that this device will be released alongside the HTC Nexus 8 tablet in a separate Google event hosted in September at some point in time, and until Google’s official announcement, the definite release date of these two exciting new devices is unknown.
